That the solving of a crossword puzzle entails a certain degree of skill and ability, and that the competition advertised in the Poverty Bay Herald in connection with such a puzzle was therefore illegal, was the judgment given by Air Levvy, S.AL. at the Magistrate’s Court this morning in a case in which the police proceeded against the Herald Company on a charge of publishing an advertisement which made it appear that certain premises in Gisborne were used for the purpose of taking part in a scheme by which prizes were gained by chance.
