WOOLSTON TANNERIES.

PROCEEDINGS AT COMMISSION. (BY TELEGRAPH —-PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. At the Woolston Tanneries Commission, Mr Myers made the plea that the company did not ask to be reimbursed with. the whole of their losses. The suggestion would be made that the whole of the profits of the company should he averaged as from the date they commenced business in 1912. They should he charged income tax, and should receive a refund of any sums paid in excess of those amounts, plus interest. They should he compensated to the extent of £35.000. He wanted to make it clear that they were not going hack on anything previously offered.

.Sir John Hosking said he would leave the definite figures out of the question altogether at the present stage.

Sir John Findlay raised a point of law. . He said the second part of the company’s claim was based on new ground altogether, that there was an inducement on the part of the Board of Trade for the company to carry on. 51 r Myers said that the whole case rested on that rmestion. The point- was raised during the giving of evidence before the committee of the House. The Commissioner said he would not give a separate ruling on the point. and would leave it to the Government to deal with. Cecil M. Ollivier. chairman of the hoard of Woolston Tanneries, confirmed the statements wTrirti he had made in U's evident before the committee of the House. Witness produced a- letter written bv him to Dr. Reakes in .Tanuarv, 1917. in which he intimated that. Messrs A. Sims and A. Cooper were directors of the eompanv. The letter further pointed out that the Government regulations would compel the closing of the pelt department if thev became Government supplies.
