His body is lying i . state in his cardinal’s robes. The police were unable to restrain the huge crowds desiring to pass the bier. They arrested several persons and closed the gates of the palace. BERLIN, Jan. 24. _ Resentment at Cardinal Merciers conduct during the war culminated in an unparalleled outburst of calumny in the Junker Press, which declares that he was Germany's most dangerous enemy and opposed the Germans’ kindness and humanity in Belgium.
