MUST BE ABOLISHED
N.S.W. UPPER HOUSE. MORE LEGISLATORS. NEW APPOINTMENTS PROPOSED. BY CABLE—press association—copyright. (Received Jan. 26, 11.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 26. The State Premier (Mr Lang) expresses liis determination to see the Legislative Council abolished. It is probable that he will approach the Governor during the recess regarding more appointments to the Council. The feeling in political circles is that the Governor will not be a party to making additional appointments. Referring to the use of the police to search for the missing councillor, whose return was reported in yesterday’s cables, Mr Lang said that when it was discovered that he had left the hotel in the morning and did not return his friends became alarmed, all asserting that unless he had met with an accident his vote for the Government was certain. Foul play was even suggested in view of the importance of the issue at stake. It was the duty of the police to find citizens who had disappeared in suspicious circumstances, and surely there could be no more suspicious circumstances than the disappearance of a legislator on the eve of an important division.
It is understood that a cable has been despatched on behalf of Governors of certain States requesting that it should be laid down definitely by the Dominions Office that State Governors should he allowed absolute _ discretion in domestic problems relating to the office of State Governor.
