INAHA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) There was an attendance of over fifty people at the smoke concert held on Monday night and rendered to Mr. B Kerr, who has been engine-driver at th< factory for the past six years, and who lias accepted, a position with Messrs. W. C. Clements and Son, sawmillers, Te Kiri. During the evening songs and recitations were given by Messrs. T. Coleman. J. Willis, P. Steffert, A. Jackson and others, which were all much appreciated. Messrs. J. Gaskin (manager) and K. H. Baird (assistant) said how sorry they were to have to say good-bye to the guest of the evening, bnt they w oe pleased to know that Mr. Kerr was g • ing to a better position. Mr. \V. R. O. Spooner, on behalf of the suppliers and factory staff, presented Mr. Kerr with a full set of stainless cutlery and a safety razor. Mr. Kerr, who was taken completely by surprise, said that whatever little he had done for the suppliers and the district had ahvavs been a labour 01 love. Something of a record was established by the milking herd owned b Mr. L. Hodgkins, farmer, of Horsham Downs. From a farm of 50 acres li.s 40 cows returned 19231 b of milk daily, with a 4.5 test. These figures speak for themselves, but the returns are, enhanced when it is explained that th ■ herd comprised 20 heifers, l(i sec -nd ealvers, and only 4* mature cows. The above was. taken from a Waikato paper, and I think it must be a, record. The best 50 acres I know of around here carried 38 cows, which produced 15361b,s of milk.
