NORMANBY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOWN BOARD. At the monthly meeting of the Normanby Town Board there were present : Crs (J. J. Preston (chairman), Coad, T. Lloyd, P. Ley do n and A. Hills. A letter was received from Mr T. F. Martin, secretary of the Municipal Association, in answer to an inquiry from the board as to whether sections used for a horse paddock by scholars attending school were exempt from rates. The answer was in the affirmative. The chairman reported that in company with Cr Coad and the town clerk tie had interviewed the chairman and clerk of the Hawera County Council in regard to the agreement in connection with the maintenance of the main roads through the township. It had been decided to delete several clauses from the old agreement and to substitute others, which would put the agreement on a more workable basis than the old one which was drawn up in 1905, a 6 the present conditions were very different to those existing at that time. The alteration as suggested was approved. Accounts to the amount of £7l 8s lOd were passed for payment. SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the board was then held to fix the statutory half-holi-day within the town district. The chairman proposed, and Cr Coad seconded, the following motion: “That Wednesday be the day on which the half-holiday be held.” " This proposal was carried.
