FLUNKED SHIELD MATCH. THIS MORNING’S SCORE. (by telegraph—press association.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 11. The Plunket Shield match was resumed in fine weather to-day. The wicket was wet after heavy week-end rain. “Woods (107 not out 1 ) and MeEwan took strike to the bowling of Player and Snedden. The scoring was very slow, five runs coming from five overs, while it took 22 minutes to add 15. McEwan brought up the fourth century with a six. Five hours and 38 minutes were occupied in reaching this total. Half an hour’s play this morning awarded 24 runs. At 409 Smith relieved Player. With 414 on the hoard McEwan was given out leg before to the new bowler. B—4l8 —414 —26. Read followed. Auckland’s total was passed with a snick through the slips. Four runs later Read was caught by Player off Smith. 9—12(1 —5. Scores were as under: McEwan, 1.b.w., b Smith 26 Read, c Player, b Smith 3 Findlay, c Scott, b Smith 1 Woods* not out 124 Extras The innirlgs closed at midday with a total score of 423. Rowling analysis: Simpson one wicket for 89 runs, Player three for 79, Smith five for 59. Cooper one for 49, Sued deal none for 55, Horspool none for 14. Anthony none for 56. Auckland’s se ond innings commenced at 12.25. Anthony taking strike to Read. Two singles came off the first over. Prater opened to Sandman, scoring a single off the first over. Twenty were raised for 17 minutes’ play. The batsmen scored freely in a poor light, and 25 minutes’ play saw 34 on the hoard. Findlay replaced Sandman, and at the luneli adjournment the score was 46 for no wickets —Anthony (not out) 21, Frater (not out) 21, extras 4.
