BOWLING.

BRITISH TEAM IN NEW PLYMOUTH. REP. GAME TO-DAY. The British team reached New Plymouth on Saturday, and were coidiallj welcomed by the Mayor (Mr F. E. Wilson) and by Mr A. K. Smart oil behali of Taranaki bowlers. The Mayor said he hoped the present tour would be the forerunner of many more in the future, and drew attention to the fact that bowling in Taranaki was fairly strong, as befitted a province whose early settlers came from old Plymouth. He hoped the visitors _ would spend a right royal time in this province. Mr A. Iv. Smart said lie hoped the visiting Britishers would find the conditions good and would thoroughly enjoy their stay in the district.

VISIT TO THE MOUNTAIN. Yesterday a large party comprising visitors, local bowlers and friends had a trip to the Northern Mountain House, and enjoyed a perfect day’s outing. All the visitors expressed the greatest admiration for the beauty of the scenery and the wonderful outlook generally from the house. TO-DAY’S MATCH. The test match with Taranaki began at 2 p.m. to-day. The greens were in good order, and play was keen and enthusiastic. Included in the Taranaki team were six Hawera players, five from Hawera Club and one from Park.
