PROPERTY LAW.
• ► IMPORTANT ALTERATIONS IN BRITAIN. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGH T. LONDOiN, Jan. 2. One of the most important changes of the new law of property operating to-day is the extension of the equalisation positions of husband and wiis and the abolition of primogeniture, or eldest son's right ito his father’s freehold land. The distinction between realty and personality disappears, all property descending in the same way. In the absence of a will a widow or widower is equally treated, receiving all the personal .belongings, furniture, jewels, motor-cars, plus £IOOO. If there is any residue the widow or widower gets half for life and the remainder is glivided equally among the children.
Many former complications of intestary disappear. If an heir as close as a cousin cannot be discovered all the intestate’s land goes to the Crown. This will prevent the formerly numerous claims by distant relatives from overseas.
