GLASGOW’S SLUMS.

LADY CYNTHI A MOBLEY “BROKEN BY THEM.” GLASGOW, Nov. 9. Lady Cynthia Mosley and her husband, ‘ Mr. Oswald Mosley, continued their, campaign in Glasgow to-day on behalf of the Labour Party. They spent the morning visiting the slum areas, and during the afternoon addressed a crowded meeting of women. Lady Cynthia referred to her slumming expedition, and declared: “I am absolutely broken by the slums. If yon have not seen them, for Godts sake get out and see them. We say we are civilised, we think we are a wonderful people, yet -a stone's throw away from the smart places in this big -and famous city we have things which ought to have -been abolished from the face of the earth hundreds of years ago.” She had been in little rooms where there was no light and the gas was lit all day; she had seen a mother who had had her fourth baby only -a few days ago in a room six feet by six, while her other children played on top of her and around her.

Some people seemed to think that bad housing existed only -among the minority of the people. They were wrong; it existed among the majority. The slums were a mockery -and a standing indictment of the -system under which we lived to-day.
