GEO., SYME SHIELD. KEEN CONTESTS. There was a big gathering of bowlers on the Hawera green from the Hawera, Park, Manaia, and Patea 'Clubs to contest for the possession* of the George Svme Shield, played for annually by teams from these clubs Mr S. Adamson, president of the Hawera Club, briefly welcomed the visitors and. expressed the hope that all would) have a pleasant time and that victory would go to one of tlie clubs who had not yet won the shield. Mr Geo. iSyine, who was greeted with enthusiasm, expressed his pleasure, at being present and hoped the contest would! be close and keen. He then sang the bowlers’ song written by'Milt. Lanibie, another grand old man of bowling, to the tune of ”Ye Banks and Braes.” Results for the morning’s play were as below: — PARK v. MANAIA. (Park players mentioned first.) Wainwright, Thurston, Crutch, Goodwin 11; Ward, Hickey, Howard, J. Christie 26. . Parkes, Murdoch, Vilars, W. Grant 20; Innes. Payne, Poynter, Andrews 18.
