HAWERA FIRE BOARD.

PROGRESS IN 1925. The year that is just ending has been an important one from the point cf view of the Hawera. Fire Board, and in its endeavour to give adequate fire protection, the board has embarked on considerable expenditure. A new engine, known as the Dennis Patent Turbine Fire Pump, has been purchased for the sum of £1362, and an order has been placed for a Duplex alarm system with 20 call boxes, costing £945. The board hopes that the installation will take place about the end of January or February, but that will depend on the Post and Telegraph Department, who will do the outside wiring.

A feature of the year has been the success of the Hawera firemen at the Christchurch demonstrations. They won three shields and tied for a fourth.
