WHERE TO GO.

HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS. A WIDE RANGE. Although it is expected that the- ton n of Hawera wilj be comparatively quiet during the Christmas vacation, the several holidays resorts in the district will be well patronised. There will be many and varied ways for local residents to spend the holidays. There will be racing in Taranaki fur the followers of the ‘‘sport of icings, 1 ' surfing at the local beaches loi; the lovers ol the sea, and a ramble through the bush or a- climb on the slopes of Mount Egmont for those whose caste tend in that direction. All these resorts are attractive enough to draw the busy townspeople away for the few days oi their holidays. As usual, Mount Egmont has proved magnetic to a large number of people, and all the available accommodation at the Dawson Falls Hostel has been engaged. The roads are reported to be m excellent order, and it is probable that many people will spend at least one day on the mountain. Special fast trains are being run to New Plymouth on Boxing Day and Monday for the race meeting to be held there. This meeting 'has always been a popular one and one that is attended by racegoers throughout Taranaki. An netirely new facility for the meeting is that Opunake and district residents will be able to travel to New Plymouth by train, as the Public Works Department lias arranged to run a service connecting with the early train from Hawera. This train will leave Opunake at 6.30 o’clock each day. A special train will be run from Hawera, leaving at 8.45 o’clock. An event of particular interest to Taranaki members of the Salvation Army will be the picnic to be held on the Hawera Showgrounds on Boxing Day. Members from a-li the corps between New Plymouth and Patea wiT be present, and a- very enjoyable day should be spent, especially as the bands of each branch will be at the picnic. No doubt a large proportion of the Hawera residents will find their way to the Hawera beaches. The various motor service proprietors announce that their cars and charabancs will be carrying passengers to the Waingongoro beach. One of the favourite picnic resorts of the district is the Ngaere Gardens. The special race trains to New Plymouth wilj eater for passengers to Ngaere.
