SPORTING.
STRATFORD RACING CLUB. Record acceptances have been received by the Stratford Racing Club in respect of the first day or its meeting, New Year’s Day, and exciting racing is assured. The highly satisfactory acceptances for all events on the first day are without doubt a compliment to the handicapper, Mr. W. P Russell. The committee, in conjunction with the Stratford Borough Council and police, has instituted a comprehensive scheme for the handling of traffic. The club has effected substantial improvement to the motor enclosure, and there is now ample accommodation for motorcars. Motor vehicles from the north will enter the. course via Flint Road and Tybalt Street. Motor vehicles from the south will enter the course via Broadway and Pembroke Road. Local traffic will approach the course via. Fenton Street and Cordelia Street and special taxi mad, returning to town via Cordelia Street and Regan Street, Patrons using the local taxi services are requested to pay fares before entering the course and avoid delay at the entrance. Cordelia Street will be closed to pedestrian traffic. ' The course has been considerably improved, and there is now extended accommodation for lawn patrons. Special trains will run from Now Plymouth, Wanganui, Opunake, Tabora on both days. 'The catering is in the hands of Messrs Dustins Ltd., of Wanganui, and Mr. W. Darragh, of Kaponga, will be in charge of the booths. The Stratford Band, under the baton of Mr. F. Kear, will be in attendance.
