In a recent issue of the Mid-Devon Advertiser, under the heading “The All Blacks,” the following comment appears : Dr. Thacker, a member of the New Zealand Parliament, patron of the New Zealand Rugby League, and an old Rugby player with Edinburgh University, who is at present on a visit to England, makes a striking statement that the New Zealand Rugby League team to meet England next season will be the best side that has ever left those shores. He says that if any members of the last All Black team, which gained so many victories in England, were to turn professional, it is doubtful whether they would gain a place in the League touring team. Counterfeit half-crowns have been appearing in Auckland for some time past, and are gaining in circulation. They are evidently being manufactured on a large scale, and there have been many attempts at perfection since their first appearance. Those in circulation at present are very difficult to distinguish from genuine coins. Their colour, weight and general reproduction are very deceiving, but the coins do not “ring true,” and, as was the case 'with the previous batches, the inner milline'is missing. AM of them bear the date 1916.
