AN AWKWARD FIX.
FOR, CANADIAN CABINET. *ER. PACIFIC CABLE BOARD. 8Y CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Dec. 14, noon. OTTAWA, Dec. 13. A representative of the Australian Press Association approached the Hon. C. Murphy, Canadian PostmasterGeneral, "for the promised statement regarding Canada’s •withdrawal from the Pacific Cable .Board. Mr. Murphy, however, declared that- he was unable to further discuss the matter. Other members of the Cabinet, when approached, likewise scrupulously avoided any comment thereon, seeming to indicate 'that their sympathy is not with Mr. Murphy. Observers point out that the Government is in an awkward position, in view of the uncertainty of its own tenure of office when Parliament reassembles, especially since should it be sustained in office it would be faced ■ with the dilemma of either supporting Mr. Murphy’s views or repudiating one of its own Cabinet Ministers. Mr. Mackenzie King, the Prime Minister, when asked for an expression of opinion said: “I know nothing about the matter.” —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
