BAKER’S ASSISTANT FILES.

ESTATE OF JOHN MUNRO

A meeting of creditors in the estate of" John Munro, of Hawera, baker’s assistant, was held this afternoon, when five creditors were either present or represented. . . The statement of bankrupt’s position showed one secured creditor for £2O and unsecured claims amounting to £64 12s Id, with assets valued at £25. The principal unsecured creditors were: Dr. Gordon (Te Aroha) £l9, Beale Bros. (Rotorua) £9 19s 3d, Hawera Gas Co. £4 Bs, D. McCormick and Co. £5 Is, 11. G. Spurdle (Auckland) £6 Bs, and L. A. Taylor £4 15s lOd. In a signed statement, bankrupt said that he came to Hawera from Te Aroha about two years ago. Shortly before he left he had been laid up with a broken leg for five months, during which time he had received no wages. With a wife and three children depending on him, he had dropped behind, and had been approximately £7O in debt. His wages in Hawera had ranged from £4 13s to £5 7s a week but, owing to constant pressure from creditors and added costs, be had been unable to get ahead, in spite of the fact that his father paid the greater jiart of his Te Aroha debts. He was paying 27s 6d rent, and found that it took him all his time to get along. Cross-examined at the instance of Mr L. A. Tavlor. a creditor, bankrupt admitted having made an agreement with his Hawera creditors in August last by which they were to stay proceedings on condition that he paid off his debts at the rate of £1 a week. At the time of this arrangement lie had not mentioned Beale Bros.’ debt —contracted in Te Aroha—it having slipped his mind. He had not made any payments in fulfilment of this agreement with his Hawen creditors. His only payment of back debts since August was in resnect of a judgment order made. He had ho record of receipts and expenditure covering the period since August. The meeting Unanimously adopted a motion expressing dissatisfaction with the conduct and affairs of bankrupt, and intimating that the creditors were opposed to his discharge being granted until he had paid 10s in the pound.
