GISBORNE HARBOUR WORKS. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GISBORNE, Dec. 8. The Gisborne Harbour Board lias purchased the scow’ Zingara lor the purpose of transporting stone to be used in connection with breakwater construction. FOUND DEAD. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 8. Cecil H. Allen, a well-known jeweller, of Palmerston North, was found dead this mornning in a bathroom attached to his workshop. He was a married man with one child. Deceased had suffered from ill health lately. CHARGED WITH ASSAULT. AUCKLAND. Dec. 8. Philip Michael Sutherland w-as charged at the Police Court with assault on James Kelly, a seaman on the lonic, and was remanded to December 10. No statement was made by the police, but it transpires that the cause of Kelly’s death was hemorrage of the brain. CARPENTERS AND JOINERS. WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. The Dominion award for carpenters and joiners was hied to-day. Practically the only alteration is an increase in wages of lj:d per hour, .in accordance with the Arbitration Court’s recent pronouncement. A BODY IDENTIFIED. PAHIATUA, Dec. 8. The body of the elderly swagger which was found in the Manawatu River has been identified as that of Joseph Golding, a native of Ireland. It is understood that he has no relations in the Dominion. A verdict of accidental death was returned. SCALDED TO- DEATH. GISBORNE, Dec. 8. At the inquest on Shirley Josephs, the 13-months-old child, who died as a result of scalds received at 7 a.m. yesterday, it was tetated that the child caught hold of a basin of boiling water and accidentally poured it over herself. A verdict of accidental death was returned. THEFT AT PALMERSTON NORTH. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 8. Walter Honey, a labourer, appeared at the Police Court on several charges of theft. He pleaded guilty and w r as sentenced to imprisonment for a month on each, sentences to be concurrent. He also pleaded guilty to charges of breaking and entering and theft, and was sent to the Supremo Court for sentence. Basil Trevor Wood, aged .16 years, on eight charges of theft was convicted and discharged. On two indictable theft charges lie pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
