The University Council has decided to investigate proposals by Laura Spellman, of the Rockefeller Memorial, for a system of research scholarships in economics, to ibe available for Australians in tbe United States and for Americans in Australia. The Rockefeller Memorial also proposes to establish!; a similar system with New Zealand universities. PAN-PACIFIC CONFERENCE. MELBOURNE!, Dec. 8. The Australian Lafcjour Party is sending out invitations to all recognised industrial organisations in countries bordering the Pacific, asking them to 'appoint delegates to the proposed pan-pacific Peace Conference, to he held at Honolulu in November, 1926. Received Dec. 8, 1.10 p.m LONDON, Dec. 7. The by-election for Ripon, owing to the appointment of Rt. Hon. E. Wood as Viceroy for India, resulted in the return of Major Hills (Conservative) with 16,433 votes. Mr. Murray (Liberal) received 11,422.
