PRESENTATION TO MR. W. 11. FIELD. POLITICAL SITUATION REVIEWED. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) k WELLINGTON, Dee. 5. _ A banquet has been given to Mr. W. H. Field, M.P. for Otaki, and liis wire, at which the Prime Atinister, the Hon. J G Coates, and the Atinister for Lands, the Hon. A. D. McLeod, were present. Presentations were made to both guests in recognition of Air. Field’s twenty-five years’ political service. . , . Mr. Coates took the occasion to make a few remarks on the political situation. He admitted that the country’s expenditure was vitally commensurate with urgent developmental works. No Government was more keen to help the men who did manual labour. Equal rights for’everyone was the honest aim of the Government. They knew that the temperament of the people of New Zealand would not stand for class legislation; it must be a fair deal for all. The Prime Minister alluded to the Locarno Pact, with which the Dominion was in full accord, as a move in the direction of the world’s happiness, and paid a tribute to Sir Austen Chamberlain’s share in bringing it about.
