EXCITING TIME.

FERRY STEAAIER’S EVENTFUL TRIP. (By Telegraph—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 4. Several hundred passengers on the ferry steamer Aluri.tai had an exciting experience after leaving Day’s Bay for the city at 8 o’clock, this morning. A heavy northerly gale prevailed, With terrific squ-al'ls, which sent the uptime flying over the vessel. Just after leaving the wharf a rudder chain .snapped. The captain endeavoured to anchor, hut the steamer drifted .some distance before the anchor held, the steamer then being in close proximity to Ward Island. Another .steamer went to the Muritai’s assistance, and after an hour’s delay, repairs were effected and these enabled the steamer to complete an eventful trip.
