PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr W. E. Spencer, M.A., officer in charge of school building for the Education Department-, is retiring. Mr Spencer, who was a schoolmaster originally, became a school inspector and was stationed in Taranaki thirty years ago. He then went to headquarters in Wellington, and was first editor of the School Journal. Later he took up the duties of building expert for tlie Department. Mr: C. C. M. Watson-Munro, M.1.E.E., of London, the assistant electrical signal engineer of N.Z. Railways, was a visitor to South Taranaki last week, and spent tlie week-end with relatives at Manaia,
Lady Crawf ord-Warson, of Whitby, Yorkshire, widow of the late Colonel Sir Henry Crawford-Watson, and her sister, Lady Helena Harrowing, are expected to arrive in New Zealand in January. They anticipate spending two or three months in a tour of the Dominion, during which time, they will visit relatives at Manaia.
Mr A. F. Graham, Invercargill, lias been appoined secretary of the Christchurch Returned 'Soldiers’ Association, following the resignation of Mi* W. E. Leadley. Prior to going overseas he was, secretary and treasurer to the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. When he returned he was appointed to the staff of Messrs Henry Berry and Co. at Dunedin, and was later taken to the employ of th e Invercargill Borough Council as correspondence clerk, the position which he holds at the present time. In a gathering characterised by the warmest cordiality and hopefulness for the future, Normanby Presbyterians met last night in the church hall to welcome Rev. H. J. and Mrs. Fletcher. Rev. R. E. Evans, of Hawera, presided. After a few musical items, Mr. Evans, on behalf of the Presbytery and the Hawera congregation, welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher to their new sphere. Mr. G. M. Galloway then spoke on behalf of the Normanby members and 1 adherents, and- Mr. Clement voiced the good wishes of the church folk of other denominations. Mrs. Arclibold, on behalf of the ladies of tlie P.W.M.TJ., also welcomed Mrs. Fletcher. Cordial votes of thanks to those who had helped to carry on the work during the absence of a minister were then carried, and after the orthodox cup of tea the benediction brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
