CHESTS OF TREASURE.
EASTERN PRINCE ARRIVES. EX-SULTAN’S AGENT. NEW YORK, Nov. 19. An aged Syrian, who has arrived in New York, might well have come from one of the Arabian Nights’ stories on a magic carpet. But perhaps the magic carpet would not have borne the weight of the five heavy chests he has with him. The mysterious visitor to the new world calls himself Prince Rachid Moutran Pasha, and claims that he was the confidential agent in Paris of the exSultan Abdul Hamid.
The five chests are reported to contain £2,000,000 worth of Greek golden ornaments.
Rachid says they were dug up years ago in the Turkish province of Trebizond, on the Black Sea.
