A SERIOUS CHARGE.

Amy Glen, a young married woman, was charged this morning with having performed an illegal operation. She was remanded till November 25. Bail was refused, the police stating that the girl concerned had since died, and a more serious charge may he laid.
FIRE AT TAUMARUNUI. TAUMARUNUI, Nov. 16. A dwelling-house occupied and owned by Mrs P. C. Ginders, was burnt out early on Sunday morning. The occupants were away for the week-end when the fire occurred. The insurances on the dwelling were £IOOO, and on the furniture £250, in the South British Office. MAHENO STILL HELD UP. WELLINGTON, Nov. 16. The Afahe no is still at the wharf owing to its inability to obtain a crew. Its departure, which was fixed on Saturday for 11 a.m. to-day, was farther postponed till 3 p.m. to-day. KAIKORAI TRAGEDY. DUNEDIN, Nov. 16. When the charge of murder against Ellen Hart in connection with the Kaikorai tragedy on November 9 was called the chief detective requested a remand, the accused still being in hospital. He announced that it was anticipated the case would proceed on the 26th inst. The remand was granted. A YOUTH’S SUDDEN DEATH. GISBORNE, Nov. 16. James Scott, aged 17, whilst chopping firewood, felt faint. He was taken to hospital, but expired shortly after admission from haemorrhage of the king.
