KAPUNI ENTERTAINMENT.

KAPONGA CROQUET CLUB. ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL The social held in the ICapuni Hall on Friday evening under the auspices of the Ivaponga Croquet Club fully upheld the excellent reputation gained by the club in similar events and sustained the popularity of ICapuni as a rendezvous for such entertainments. Once again the president (Mrs. W. E.iHollard) and the seem tary (Mis. T. Bennie), together with the other enthusiastic workers in the event, are to be congratulated upon the success of their efforts. The conventional dances were supplemented by competition numbers, which added to the general attraction. Among these, principle interest centred in the sweepstake -waltzing contest in which the judge, Mr. D. H. Briggs, of Ivaponga, who was compelled to exercise very exacting discrimination, cventuallv gave the award to Mrs. E. C. Evans and Mr. D. Mercer. Miss Whalen and Mr. McCalluni were the winners in an exciting “balloon’ ’ dance competition, Miss Litchwark and Mr. Geo. Scott held the selected position at the conclusion of the “spot” dance, and Miss Frood and Mr. J. Paterson proved the favoured couple in the elimination “card” dance.

In the cards room, where a euchre tournament was arranged by Mrs. J. Hawkins, another trial of skill and fortune was decided, Mrs. W r . Wheeler securing the highest number of winning games among the lady players and Mr. Jack Scott among the gentlemen players. Suitable mementos were presented to the successful competitors in the various events.

Mrs. C. H. Brower was in charge of the supper-room where a busy bevy of attendants waited upon the guests, who were supplied with an abundance of ap petising delicacies, and further appreciated refreshments were provided throughout the evening at an ice-cream and soft drinks stall conducted by tlie president. Excellent dance music was supplied by Boulton’s orchestra, assisted with extras by several competent players drawn from the gathering, while the duties of M.’sC. were courteously attended to by Messrs. Eddie and Geo. Scott, who kept the programme moving with a swing from the first to the final waltz.
