NATIONAL HERO.
WELCOME TO ITALIAN AVIATOR, BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. ROME, Nov. 7. The Italian Prime Minister, Signor Mussolini,- in welcoming Major de Pinedo, after the latter’s successful flight round the world, declared that the aviator deserved to be acclaimed by national poets like D’Annunzio and Dante. Major de Pinedo used the same machine throughout. The motor was most perfect, despite the 34,000 mile journey. The aviator says he is ready for another . circle of the globe if necessary. Major de Pinedo, Chief of the Italian Air Force, left Rome on April 24 to fly to Australia and Japan, a total distance of about 34,000 miles. Major de Pinedo was accompanied by a mechanic, and flew in a 400 h.p. machine with a flight capacity of ten hours. Hi s machine was of the ordinary service scout-ing-bombing tvpe of hydroplane, Italian built. Tlie object of the flight was to supply evidence of the technic a 1 efficiency of Italian aeronautics. Major de Pinedo is a Neapolitan, aged 35. He served in the war, and was decorated four times.
