The body of Marcus Turnbull Boss, aged 28, a single man, who was employed by the Public Works Department, was found in his hut. at ICahuika early yesterday morning. He had met his death under revolting circumstances, a detonator having exploded in his mouth (says a Dunedin Press Association message). A message from Sydney, received this morning, stated that the Maheno was still held up. It was awaiting the return of its firemen or the engagement of fresh hands. After weeks of warm summer weather, Dunedin experienced an unusual and trying cold! snap yesterday. In the morning the temperature had dropped considerably, and a cold wind, with driving showers of rain and occasional hailstorms, lasted throughout the day. A light coating of snow topped Mount Cargill and Flagstaff Hill, which overlook the city. The Govern or-General (Sir Charles Fergusson) spent a quiet day at Dunedin yesterday, not being engaged with any official functions. Lady Alice Fergusson opened a sale of work in the afternoon in connection with the ladies’ guild of th© Anglican Cathedral before a large attendance. Her Excellency delivered a neat speech in declaring the sale open, and was presented with floral bouquets.—Press Assn.
