COMMITTEE MEETING
At the ordinary meeting of the committee of the Egmont A. and P. Association, held to-day, the president (Mr S. C. Tonks) was in the chair. There were present Messrs W. McL’Dowie, J. D. Scott, G. W. Stubbs, F. Gillanders, A. Lankow, J. S. T. Short, E. A. Washer, A. Hunter, It. McKay, J. Forbes, R. Crocker, B. C. Gibson, H. Finlay, and the secretary (Mr M. C. Crighton). An apology was received from Mr F. Hoskin.
The Railway Department, Wanganui, wrote advising the train arrangements for the show, giving special goods train facilities from Waitotara and for live stock by trains from Wanganui and North Taranaki. On the second day the usual trains north and south would he delayed. The Hawera Rotary Club made application for the show grounds for a fireworks display on behalf of the Plunket Society* Boy Scouts and the Band. It added that the display was being managed by an expert, so that no damage would result to the property. The president said he had seen Mr. Salmon, the secretary of the club, and the display would he well managed and under competent supervision. It would take out cover for a general insurance risk. —On the motion of the president the request was granted.
The Borough •Council granted application to drive show stock to and from the railway station, via Camberwell Road 'on the occasion of the annual show. '
The Hawera Amateur Athletic Club asked consideration -of a suggestion that the caretaker take charge of the club’s material on the grounds, .and, when necessary, mark off grounds for sports meetings. It asked to be advised the charge that would be made.
The president said that he considered the association could take charge and mark out grounds for any meeting but at show time, and it was agreed that this be done. In connection therewith, the president added that he had noticed posts and rails were moved by the club and not restored. It was resolved to write to the club advising them that all such removals made for the club’s meetings be carefully restored.
The question of dealing with Messrs Newton King, Ltd., in the matter of nnrtv walls and the right-of-way between the office and the- purchaser’s buildings be (eft to the executive. The president said he considered it would have been unwise to do away with the right-of-way to Nelson Street.
