ORDERED TO LEAVE HAWERA

STRANGER TO THE TOWN. CONVICTED FOR DRUNKENNESS. A devout worshipper at the shrine of Bacchus appeared before Mr. G. H. Buokeridge, J.P., at the Police Court this’■morning. With a strong burst of eloquence, the defendant, who is a stranger to the town, poured voluble excuses into the ear or the Justice, but to no avail; He_ was convicted and discharged, and ordered to leave the flown. It was stated that the defendant hhd been practising a tale of woe on generous passers-by. NATIVE WOMEN CHARGED.

FINE OF £2 IMPOSED

A native woman was also charged with drunkenness. She pleaded guilty. Although »a statutory first offender, she had a formidable list against her. She was fined £2, and ordered to pay 2s 6d expenses.
