The recent fighting at Biban was most severe, entailing heavy French losses. Simultaneously General Beichut’s column further east was strongly attacked by tribes whose submission was prematurely announced.
Natives arriving from the Riff country declare that Abd-el-Krim retains the confidence of the tribes, and is pieparing a winter campaign against both France and Spain.

French reports confirm the French withdrawal, which i>s ascribed to*the difficulty in bringing up 'supplies owing to the rain. Abd-el-Krim has quickly made capital of the retirement in intensified propaganda among the neighbouring tribesmen. Fez reports describe successful French operations at other points. Two columns are advancing on the western front with the objective of enveloping the Bidane massif and punishing the troublesome Wierriagel tribe. The French occupied the crater and centre froat, after fighting and marching for twelve hours. • ,
