(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOWN BOARD. At the monthly meeting of the board there were present: Commissioners C. J. Preston (chairman), C. Coad, T. Lloyd and P. Leydon. Mr H. White applied for permission to erect a hitching post in front of his blacksmith’s shop.—Granted, the work to be done under the supervision of the chairman.

It was decided to support the Christchurch City Council in its protest against the suggested Government control of local bodies’ borrowing. The Hawera Amateur Athletic Club applied for permission to use the roads through the township for a cycle road race on the 26th inst.—Granted.

A number of ratepayers whose rates are in arrears are to be given notice that if their rates are not paid proceedings will be taken for their recovery without further notice. The cattle registration for the ensuing year was fixed at £1 per cow, and a resolution passed that all chains and tags must be returned before reregistration can be effected. The clerk was authorised to order the necessary discs for registration and also to advertise the date on which fees are due. DOMAIN BOARD.

.Two tenders were received for the lease of Victoria Park for 12 months, viz.—Mr Cecil Arden £l6 and Mr A. E. Spratt £l2 lie 9d. The board resolvod to accept Mr Arden’s tender.
