QUEEN CARNIVAL.
POSITION OF CANDIDATES. The positions of the respective .queen carnival candidates are now as follow: SCOTTISH ! SPORTS -2 COUNTRY ... .... ... ... 3 The general treasurer reports that the money is coming in freely, and a considerable sum now stands tb the credit of the general committee. It is believed that together with the money now held by the committees and the money which will be made from the bazaar, the amount anticipated will be exceeded. CAMPAIGN NOTES. The flannel dance held last evening under the auspices of the Amateur Athletic -Club in aid of the Sports candidate’s fund was successful, and a considerable profit was realised. The Scottish Society will hold a shop day next to Poison’s Art Depot- on Saturday in aid of the Scottish candidate. The society asks supporters to help with gifts, and also asks patrons to be liberal in their support. The sports meeting on Labour Day promises to be one of the mo-st successful meetings held by the Amateur Athletic Club. As it will be the major local attraction, a large attendance is expected, and in view of this a very interesting programme has been arranged. 'The principal event will he the cycle road race, and a strong team from Wanganui will compete in most of the events. Considerable interest has been shown towards the baby show, and all particulars concerning entries are obtainable from Mr W. Hawkins, of High Street. The Scottish concert party’s visit to Okaiawa last evening was a very successful one. The accommodation of the hall was severely taxed, and all the ■terns were enthusiastically received. The party will visit Alton on Friday and Opunake on Monday.
