“LfIRJTY” TACTICS ALLEGED. INTERNATIONALS CRITICISED. VIEWS OF LEADERS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Oct. 16, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. The president of the Welsh Rugby Union (Mr Alyne) vigorously criticises last season’s international players. He says that they did things for which club players would have been ordered off the ground. He suggests that clubs should give a hint to the “black sheep,” and if that is of no avail to tell them to resign. Leading players agree that there are some defaulters, but the mass of play is in the true spirit of sport. Mr Kershaw says that he found the internationals were growing rougher. It was common knowledge that some players were reputed to be guilty of foul play, though these were exceptional cases.
Mr Wakefield, the English captain, says that the talk is greatly exaggerated, although there were some unfair tactics, such as holding jerseys and tripping. The Scottish president urges drastic action, as the present dirty tactics will inevitably hurt Rugby.—Sydney Sun Cable.
