PEACE PACT ADOPTED.
ARBITRATION TREATIES,
NOW BEING CONSIDERED

A British communique states that the conference, after adopting the text of the draft security pact, took up the question of arbitration treaties. They invited representatives of Poland and' Czecho-Slovakia to join in the meeting and to hear a statement in regard to the work of the jurists on draft treaties of arbitration between Germany and France on one part and Germany and Belgium on the other, the texts of which have been adopted by the delegations concerned. The representatives of Poland and Czecho-Slovakia will then give the conference an account of their own negotiations with the representatives of the German Government in regard to draft, ing arbitration treaties between Germany and Polandi on one part and Germany and Czecho-Slovakia on the other.—‘Reuter.
EASTERN FRONTIERS. NO TROUBLE EXPECTED. MUSSOLINI WILL BE THERE. Received Oct. 16, 10.40 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 15. Reuter’s Locarno, correspondent says that all delegations gave an adherence to the Western Security Pact this morning. The question of Eastern frontiers and German arbitration treaties with her Eastern neighbours is still to.be settled, but it is considered unlikely to create trouble.
For the first time since the conference opened, M. Srzynski and M. Benes, the Polish and Czecho-Slovak-ian Foreign Ministers, participated this morning. Signor Mussolini is rushing to. I.V>eamo in a motor-car from Milan in an effort to participate in the conference before it closes.
It is understood that altogether five documents will be signed, the main pact itself and four arbitration treaties. Franco - German, Poland, German-Czechlo-Slovakia, and Belgo-German. There will also be two special declarations guaranteeing arbitration treaties betlveen Germany and Poland and Germany and Czecho-Slovakia, and finally a declaration concerning Article 16 of the covenant. —Reuter.
FRENCH CONGRATULATIONS. IMPORTANT EVENT. (Received Oct. 16, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. Reuter’s Paris correspondent states that M. Painleve has telegraphed to M. Briand the warmest congratuations of the Government. He declared, that today was of historical importance.—Reuter. TRIUMPH OF CO-OPERATION. DIFFICULTIES VANISH. (Received Oct. 16, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. ,15. . Reuter’s Locarno correspondent' says that the pressmen were entertained by the delegates at a luncheon. There were 200 guests. Mr Chamberlain received an ovation. He laid stress on the co-operation of all in the determination to solve difficulties. Consequently the difficulties vanished like darkness. Nobody could claim a triumph. —Reuter.
FULL AGREEMENT REACHED. TREATY TO BE SIGNED TOMORROW. (Received Oct. 16, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. A Locarno message reports that a full agreement has been reached. The treaty will be signed to-morrow.—A. and N.Z. Assn. MINOR AGREEMENTS PROGRESS. LOCARNO, Out. 14. A communique states that after hearing the report of the judicial experts the conference decided to adopt the greater part of the final draft of the security pact, reserving a few points for further discussion. The unofficial announcement that the Allies have given Germany assurances recognising her special situation with regard to Article XYI of the Covenant, thereby enabling her to join the League, lias created confidence that the pact will be finally signed in a few days. Much progress has also been registered concerning minor points like the Rhineland occupation.
WESTERN PACT SETTLED. EASTERN FRONTIER. STILL AT ISSUE. LOCARNO; Oct. 14. The German delegation has received President Hindenbnrg’s authorisation to adhere to the Security Pact.” The German Government, after hearing Herr Kempner, fully approved the delegation’s policy. It is generally conceded that all questions regarding the Western pact are disposed of. The sole remaining problem concerns the guaranteeing iof Eastern frontiers.
