Alexander Clarence Thomas was found guilty of the murder of' Mrs. Bridget Enwright, and was sentenced to death. According to the police, Thom is told .them he was examining a rifle'after Mrs. Enwright had reproved him for shooting a bird. It went off and shot her. He then fired three shots into her. forehead. ' . ' - 1
A Melbourne message sent on September 9, 1924, stated that the body of Miss Bridget Enwright, aged 69, who had been missing from her home near Benalla since July 27, , was found partially burned in circumstances indicating- foul pLayv Miss Enwxiglrfc lived alone on her farm. The last time she was seen she was talking to a young man near her home, which, when examined, bore evidence of having been robbed, though there were no signs of a struggle. Search parties had been out since her disappearance. Her body was discovered a short distance from the house. Thomas was subsequently 'arrested' and charged with the crime. He was living under .the name of Maxwell.
