DEPORTATION BOARD.
CASE FOR WALSH CLOSED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COFYRIGiIT. SYDNEY, Oct. 14. After sitting for 27 days, the Deportation Board, so far as Tom Walsh’s case is concerned, has abruptly closed. Mr Watt (counsel for Walsh) said that after yesterday’s adjournment he and his fellow counsel had gone carefully into the whole matter, and then *ubmitted a statement protesting against the board and the inhuman proposal to tear from his family and send to perpetual exile the father of seven children, all natives of the Commonwealth and four of them still infants —and all at the behest of a huge combine with which the business interests of at least one member of the Federal Ministry were closely associated. Counsel added that he could not close Walsh’s case or do justice to it unless it included evidence which the board refused to receive. Asked if he intended to proceed, Mr Watt said that his statement spoke for itself.
Mr Lamb, Crown counsel, said the board had submjtte'J. too long to a vain repetition of evidence. He asked the board to let Mr Watt take what course he liked and grant no further adjournment.
The chairman announced that the board had no alternative but to close the Walsh inquiry. The c.a6e against Jacob Johnson was adjourned for a week.
