OBITUARY.
GEORGE BAAIFORD. One of the very earliest settlers of the district, whose arrival in Hawera dates back to the beginning of settlement, passed to his rest on Sunday at the ripe old age of 83 years in the person of Air George Bamford, of the South road, Hawera. He settled in the district about 1870 and, having seen military service, he had secured a 10acre block in the town and a 50-acre farm between Hawera and Normanby. He lived on the selection in Hawera, which was in the early days known as Bamford’s paddock, until subdivision led- to the formation of AVilson street and the cutting up of the block into smaller sections. Some years ago he left that locality, and built a house on the South road, just past the first railway crossing, where he lived until his death. His wife predeceased him many years ago. There are left one daughter (Airs F. Bernard) and two sons (Alessrs P. G. and Alfred Bamford) to mourn their loss, and with them will be felt much sympathy in their sorrow.
