(From Our Own Correspondent). SOLDIERS’ memorial: An- enthusiastic and largely representative meeting of representatives of all local committees, SQorts bodies and friendly societies, was he'd in the Elbham Council Chambers last night. The chairman of the Memorial .Committee (Mr I. J. Bridger) presided, and explained the purpose of the meeting. The committee had called the representatives to discuss the proposal to run a rose bud carnival in aid ol‘ the memorial gates. It was suggested by the. committee that live candidates be secured, and the various combined societies and bodies be asked to nominate and work in the interests of the ••io.se bud.” Mr Dunbar suggested that the candidates l>e limited to three, and that the- following combined committees nominate one each: '‘.Sports Bodies,” ••Friendly Societies’’ and “Plunket Society, Fire Brigade, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and Pipe Band,” and that representatives from each group form the committee to work for each candidate.
Mr .Jackson seconded, and the motion was carried.
It was also decided that all applications for permission to run various ‘‘.stunts” be made to the central executive in writing, and that one week be ‘allowed in which to nominate u candidate, and that the carnival end oil Saturday, November 28.
