PIHAMA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The complimentary social tendered to Aliss Stevenson on Wednesday night w r as an unqualified success, and the large gathering of visitors and local residents bore ample testimony of the esteem in -which Aliss Stevenson is held. The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with songs contributed by Master E. Riley, Alias G. NeiJson, Aliss F. Stevenson (Manaia), Airs. Huglison and Aliss Sinclair a duet, and Air. Bishop a whistling solo. Before the supper adjournment Air. J. S. Toslancl. on behalf of the residents of the district, it resented Aliss Stevenson with a handsome oak writing desk and china cabinet combined, and an afternoon ytea set (Ainsley). In making the presentation, Air. Tosland referred to the splendid pioneering work of the late Air. John Stevenson, father of Aliss Stevenson, and of the kindness and hospitality extended to all by the Stevenson family. He also wished Aliss Stevenson every happiness in her married- life. Air F. Alason eulogised the part taken by Aliss Stevenson in the social activities of the community, and the assistance she had given during the epidemic of 1918. Air. J. A. Conaglen spoke of the help given, so freely by Aliss Stevenson in all things pertaining to the social welfare of the district. Air., Alex. Stevenson suitably responded on behalf of his sister, as also did Air. E. Poole (Aliss Stevenson’s affianced husband). The singing of “For she’s a jolly good fellow” brought this interesting part of the proceedings to an end. Great credit is due to the joint secretaries, Airs. Riley and Airs. Harrop, and to the ladies’ committee who organised the social. The music for the dance was supplied by Aliss Sinclair and Air. Brunette, of Opunake, while Aliss Riley, Aliss Neilson, Aliss Long, and Aliss Pollock supplied extras.
