LABOUR CANDIDATE OPENS. -11 y IKI.KUIIACH— IMIKNH ASSOCIATION HAMILTON, Oct. 2. W. Lee Martin, Labour candidate for the Hamilton seat, opened his campaign. The candidate was well received and elaborated the Labour Party’s platform. On the liquor issue he favoured a bare majority if three issues were submitted, and he supported the proportionate vote. If returned he would endeavour to smash trusts and combines. He was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
A CANDIDATE DROPPED. DUNEDIN, Oct. 2. Mr C. M. Moss, the Labour candidate, who at the last election opposed the Hon. W. Downie Stewart (Minister for Customs), has been dropped by the Otago Labour Representation Committee at the coming election, though a month ago he was accepted as the official Labour candidate. It appears to lie a question of party discipline that has resulted in the decision to reject Mr Moss. Some time ago he proceeded to expound the usehold poliev in a Dunedin newspaper, but his interpretation evidently did not please the official heads of the party; hence, it is reported, the reason for tlieir action. It is hinted, however, by some that “general unsuitability” is the real reason for rescinding the previous endorsement. Mr Moss is silent on the subject, and will not speak until official news comes from Wellington. Interesting correspondence on the subject is exceeded when the explanations come to bo published. RANGITIKEI SEAT. MAR,TON, Oct. 3 Mr Alfred Lyons, a solicitor of Marton, has been announced _as the National candidate for Rangitikei. There are now three, the others being Messrs Glenn (Reform) and Duggan (Labour).
