HAWERA SCOTTISH SOCIETY.

FAREWELL TO MISS SMITH. The Hawera Scottish Society held a farewell social last evening, tne guest being. Miss F. Smith, who is leaving Hawera shortly for Auckland. Miss Smith, who arrived in New Zealand six years ago from Glasgow, has been extremely active, in Scottish circles, especially since the inception of the Hawera Society. Up to the time of her departure she has been a member of the. executive and secretary to the choir. During the early part of the evening l several dances were indulged in. and then a musical programme was given. The following performers assisted: Vocal items, Mrs. Sunderland, Miss Jenkins, and Messrs Buchan, Taylor, and Simpson. Mrs. Smart and Mr. Simpson sang a duet, and members of the choir joined in a choral number. Miss Twaddle gave a recitation. When supper had been served, Chieftain W. G. Simpson spoke of the good work done by Miss Smith on behalf of the society. She had carried out her 'duties in a manner which had kept the executive in complete harmony, ft had been a pleasure to work with Miss Smith, and she would be hard to replace, and the society appreciated her work very much. The members wished her happiness in her new sphere. Mr. Simpson presented Miss Smith with a suitcase. ' Mr. L. A; Taylor and Mr- D. G. Smart endored the. chieftain’s remarks. Mr; D. McCormick, on behalf of Miss Smith thanked the speakers for their remarks and expressed appreciation of the fine present. He assured everyone that the work she had done had been done willingly and ungrudgingly, and that it had always been a. pleasure to do anything she undertook/ It was sad to part with friends made in Hawera.

All joined in; singing “Will ye no’ come back again?” and dancing ended a very pleasant evening.
