The death is announced from Sydney by Press Association message, of Mr, James Wilson, a member of the Legist lation Council, at the age of 63. The following is an extract from the Lyttelton Times on September 22, 1675, exactly 50 years ago on Tuesday, concerning Mr J. Brunette, father or Mr .H. A. Brunette, of Hawera: “Mr J. Brunette, jeweller, Cathedral Square, has been entrusted with the manufacture of the crozier to be presented to the Bishop of Christchurch prior to the service within the Cathedral walls on December 16. With the exception of part of the staff, the crozier will be made of according to a very handsome design prepared by Mr B. Mounford. Over 30oes of silver will be used in the work, and the total cost is estimated at about £6o.’” Charges against William AndersOn and Hugh. McCann, sawmill employees at Taliakopa, of keeping liquor for sale in the’ no-license district of Clutha, were heard yesterday at Owaka before Mr. H. J, Dixon, S.M., says a Dunedin message. After hearing the evidence, which indicated that the liquor was brought into the district in quantities and the purchasers treated their irineds at parties, each buying a consignment in turn, the magistrate dismissed the case, saying that he was satisfied the defendants were able to afford the liquor.
