Riffs reaching Tangier from Adjir state that Abd-el-Krim, the Riff leader, suspects that the Spanish landing was accomplished with the treacherous consent of the Bukoya tribe, in whoso territory Ilonoimevo is situated, and has severely chastised the Bukoya villages, simultaneously informing the tribesmen that in the next engagement with the Spaniards they will he placed in the front rank of the. Riff army with the Beni UriagheMtes, Abd-el-Krim’s own tribe, behind, under orders to shoot if the Bukoyas hesitate to advance. The latest Fi'ench advance in Beni Zural country is expected to result in wholesale tribal submissions. The submission of one 1 important tribe is al•eadv assured. It is believed that the tribal split is likely to spread elsewhere. The Barcelona correspondent or the Daily Express states that General de Rivera’s optimism has not allayed the public anxiety; and the official casualty lists are read with painful surprise. “I have a letter from a Spanish officer,” the correspondent says, “stating that the casualties at Kadiatahir number two thousand in the one attack in which lie took part. ‘We lost nine hundred in landing on the western extremity of Alhucemas Bay. which was proclaimed a. great success,’ he writes. ‘Those who landed are now isolated and are defending themselves with the greatest difficulty.’ ” Public opinion in Spain expects the campaign to stop shortly owing to the bad weather.
