BRITAIN’S UNEMPLOYED.
ROOM IN THE DOMINIONS. A NEWSPAPER’S COMMENTS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Sept. 14. 1.10 PR 1 - LONDON, Sept. 13. The Daily Express,'in an editorial, deplores the growing number of unemployed. ‘‘lt would be worth five hundred million sterling to Britain to convert one and a half million unproductive British into productive Australians, New Zealanders, or it says. “Why cannot it be done? All had heard phrases such as ‘We fought for England, and will stay here.’ We sympathise with the man who loves his country, hut do not sympathise with the man who prefers the dole when he knows his manhood and independence lie in Australia or New Zealand. There are admitted hardships there, but they are glorious hardships. If the Government, in conjunction with the Dominions, did its part in the spirit of Englishmen, it would prove same as of old. The unfilled’ fields of Australia New Zealand and Canada, and the tragic thousands of our streets, plead alike for a strong leader.” —A. and N.Z A.ssn.
