TENNIS

TENNIS AT NIGHT. The. novelty of playing tennis at night is now provided at the Clive Road eouTtq, Auckland, on courts which are the first to be electrically lit in the Dominion. This popular pastime, which is all the rage in Australia and America, will be available for the busy people who require exercise, combined with enjoyment, in their leisure evening hours, as well as the tennis enthusiast. A commodious pavilion with a dancing floor, provides dancing and ping-pong for those who are awaiting a court, thus creating a new form of amusement for evening .parties. During the last week these courts have been tested by the leading players and. the light pronounced equal to daylight. The construction of the courts are the popular chip courts, resembling the En-Tout-Cas courts of the Continent. They are beautifully true and formed over an old scoria pit, giving ideal drainage, the overhanging cliffs providing an excellent background, in addition to shelter from the wind.

This innovation is likely to- become a popular amusement with the Auckland public, giving a healthy form of exercise, combined with the skill of lawn tennis.
