The Union Company’s steamers Kavamu and Kekerangu are disabled and in danger about 120 miles from Hob art. The Kara mu was bound from Stratum to Hobart with a cargo of ca.cines and is’ leaking. The vessel has no steam, and is drifting. The Kekerangu, bound from Port Pirie to Hobart, picked up the Karamu, and put a tow line aboard. Later tlie line carried away, and then the Kekerangu’s engines broke down, and she is also helpless. After drifting some time, she is now anchored. The Karamu’s engine-room is flooded. She has no wireless. The Kekerangu’s wireless is working badly. The steamers Kanna and La ran all left Hobart late last night and are going at full speed to the scene of the mishap. The position of the Karamu, which has a crew of twenty-live, is regarded as serious. It is thought in some quarters that her heavy dead cargo caused her to strain and open seams. Toth vessels have lost one anchor. The weather is improving.
