PROHIBITION MEETINGS.
. 4 MR. AND MRS. McCOMBS. Yesterday afternoon, under,,the ausoices of the 'W. C.T.TT.,, Mrs McCombs, who is a member of the ,Gity Council and Hospital Board in Christchurch, addressed a good number of ladies ip the Oddfellows’ Hal 1 , Hawera. .She spoke of the great need for prohibition, owing to the "drinking habits that are being formed among the young- people. Of the different scourges in the -world that ;f alcohol was the greatest. The .speaker mentioned the case of a woman in Christchurch who had fourteen children, and, owing to her drinking habits, was not able to care for them. They had to be ,brought up by the State. Mrs McCombs considered mere women should take an active interest, in outside affairs, as it gave them a wide outlook. She urged.all present to do their utmost between npw. and the coming election mob to win tw.o votes.. . . Also, vvestoTd.ay. afternoon, Mr if,. His appeal.for more active workers in the Prohibition, cause was eloquently made, apd;. as with Mrs Combs,! he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
