LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
11 UN A WAY WIN FOR NEW ZEALAND. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 29. A sparkling exhibition of League football was give u this afternoon by the New Zealand team, which defeated' Auckland by 41 to 17 at -Carla w Park before an attendance estimated at .18,000. Tlie weather conditions were ideal. The passing movements by the New Zealand backs were brilliantly - executed, and it was evident- that the team had learned many .of the finer points of the game during the Australian tour. The .ball was thrown' about in wonderful style, practically the only member of the team who kicked at ail being the full-back. ‘ Their opponents seemed completely baffled, particularly by the. “scissors” method! of passing, which was employed with great effect. New Zealand was a. little slow in starting, but once they got into their stride there was no holding them., and if they had so chosen, the score could have been much bigger. Delgrosse’s goal kicking was excellent. ; He converted seven out of the nine tries. Tries were scored for New Zealand by Avery (three), Wetherill (three), Saunders, O’Brien, and Dixon. Seven tries were converted by Delgrosse. The Auckland soorers were -St. George, Riley, and Davidson, three tries being converted by Singe, who also kicked •v penalty. The ■'following players have been chosen for the New Zealand; League football team against Queensland in the first test at Auckland next Saturday: Backs, Gregory, Delgrosse, Wetherill, Kinvan, Wilson-Hall, Brisbane, Parlies, Saunders, _ Cole; forward’s, Herring, O’Brien, Singe, Avery, Dixon, St. George.
