NEW SOUTH WALES ON TOUR
ANOTHER WIN. OTA GO-SOUTHLAND BEATEN. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Aug. 29. The visiting New South. Wales team met- a combined Qtago-Southland side at the Carisbrook ground to-day, the visitors winning by 22 points to 17. The ground was heavy and treachererous after the heavy rain earlier in the week, and a surprisingly good display of passing by the visitors’ backs .was given in the circumstances. The forwards were always ready to lend a hand in passing rushes. Otterey scored first for the combined team, and Stevenson goaled. Shortly afterwards Lawton touched down in a good position, finishing up a pretty passing limit, but the kick at goal failed. Then Kilby opened up play near, the New South Welshmen’s line. •i iicl Murray scored, Stevenson goaling. Play shifted to the other end, and Bryant scored from the ruck. Afterwards came the best passing rush of the spell, Bowers finishing the movement in a fair position, but tlie kick failed. Tlie spell ended.: Combined team 10, New South Wales 9.
The second spell opened at a furious pace, the visitors giving a fine display of handling the greasy ball. Bowers finished off a fine movement with a try at the corner, hut no goal resulted. Then Murray drop-kicked a goal and Stevenson kicked a penalty., Lawton scored a beautiful try and Crosean goaled, equalising the scores at 17 all. Bigney then scored and Lawton goaled. The game ended without further score.

Marlborough were again in defending the Seddou Shield to-day, defeating Nelson by 16 points to nil in the presence of an enormous crowd and in bright Sunny weather. Play was dull during tlie first .spell, being confined mostly to a very open biaicl° jgamte without any iseuisatroriain features until Lee took a penalty kick from near the centre-line and luekeu an excellent goad.
