GYMNASTIC DISPLAY.

COMBINED YOUNG MEN’S CLUBS,

‘Notwithstanding atrocious weather conditions last night, there was a fair attendance of the public at St. Mary’s I-Iall; when the combined Methodist and St. Mary’s Young Men’s Clubs gave a gymnastic display and concert Lems. Difficult feats on the. horizontal and parallel bars, liorse vaulting and mat tricks were all ably performed by an efficient team of fifteen under the leadership of Messrs E. Yearbuiy and S. Lav, who bad trained tlie boys, and although some of them had only had a few wekes ’ practice they did-remark-ably well. Vocal items were rendered by tlie ‘ ‘ Waiata Quartette,” consisting of Messrs Carter, Dowdle, Halbert and Thomas. In one item Mr Squire replaced Mr Carter. Elocutionary items were given by Messrs R. Johnson, A. Tregurtlia and V. Thomas. Mr L. Rowe was the accompanist. This concert was organised and produced solely by young men, and. they should be congratulated on the success they achieved. During the evening Rev. H. \\. Monaghan congratulated the members of the clubs for the work done and the very creditable display they gave. He said that it was a fine thing that the young men. were taking such interest in their gymnastic work; He said that the clubs owed a great deal to the two young men who had given so much time towards training them so well, .
